Please proactively request: Exmatriculation
Why is it important that I proactively exmatriculate?
Certificates of exmatriculation are requested by the pension authorities, for example.
You will not receive these certificates of exmatriculation automatically but only upon application to the Student Administration (Studierendensekretariat). Exception: You are an exchange student [see FAQs below].
When should I exmatriculate (deregister)?
You should exmatriculate only after completing (= submitting) all the necessary coursework and examination certificates.
Examinations that you take and certificates that you submit while you are NOT enrolled are invalid.
You must be enrolled at the time of registration and submission of the last examination, after which you can deregister, even if the examination has not yet been graded.
If you change from a bachelor’s to a master's degree program at the Philipps-Universität Marburg, it is usually necessary to transfer your registration and NOT to exmatriculate.
When does the exmatriculation (deregistration) become valid?
The requested deregistration will, at your request, take effect either at the end of the semester or on “today's date”.
I had already re-registered but now I want to exmatriculate (deregister). Is that possible?
If you complete your degree program at the end of a semester and have re-registered for the following semester to be on the safe side, you may withdraw your re-registration within four weeks of the start of lectures and exmatriculate retroactively.
However, this applies only if you have not taken any examinations during these four weeks of the semester in question. This is because your retroactive deregistration would also retroactively terminate your right to take examinations and your examination would be declared invalid.
Please also note that you must return your master data sheet and the semester ticket for the semester in progress in the event of retroactive exmatriculation.
Who can answer further questions regarding exmatriculation?
Further information on exmatriculation can be found on the pages of the study organization and in the general FAQs of Philipps-Universität Marburg.
Further questions regarding re-registration and exmatriculation (deregistration) can be answered by the Registrar's Office.
I am an exchange student. What applies to me?
No active exmatriculation is required for exchange students. Your enrolment was limited from the outset when you registered. Information on this can be found in the general FAQs of Philipps-Universität Marburg (GER) by switching to English using the button at the top right.
