Problematic use of internet applications
The use of Internet applications such as social networking sites, online games or online pornography is part of everyday life for many people (Griffiths, 2012; Kuss & Griffiths, 2017; Petry et al., 2014). More and more cases are reported in which excessive use has negative consequences for those affected (Andreassen, 2015; Grubbs, Volk, Exline & Paragment, 2015; Oberst et al., 2017). The inclusion of the problematic use of online games in the research section of the DSM-5 illustrates the relevance of the topic (Internet Gaming Disorder; APA, 2013). Within the framework of this doctoral project, various aspects of the problematic use of online games, online pornography and social networking sites will therefore be investigated:
