22.01.2024 LOEWE research project: Prevention of anxiety disorders and depression through app support

An app aims to improve the prevention of anxiety disorders and depression: This is the goal of Prof. Dr. Zarski's new LOEWE project. The project will be funded with 299,000 euros over the next two years.

The research team is focusing on an app based on DyKI-JITAI, which stands for dyadic-based, AI-controlled Just-In-Time Adaptive Intervention Mechanism: such an app, controlled by artificial intelligence and participants' preferences, offers tailored cognitive-behavioral therapy content and exercises for people with anxiety disorders and depression. In order to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of prevention, it is necessary to respond to individual needs. Ms. Zarski is collaborating on the project with Claudia Buntrock, Junior Professor of Public Health and Health Services Research at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.

The team will test an app that teaches preventive cognitive-behavioral therapy content and exercises. For support and to increase commitment, a training partner will be linked in the app. This should significantly improve the symptoms of those affected and prevent the development of full-blown disorders in the long term.
