History of Language
The History of Language research group was established in 2007 and is headed by Prof. Jürg Fleischer. Its research and curricula pursue a broad approach to the history of the German language, covering the system of language in its narrower sense along with language use and itscultural environment. Alongside a comprehensive study of language variation and change, the group focuses on historical syntax, morphology, phonology, and the numerous connections to variational linguistics, linguistic typology, and grammar. Special attention is given to Early New High German, Old High German, Hessian, Alemannic, and Eastern and Western Yiddish.
