03.05.2022 1st Data Sprint: Film Canonization and Data Criticism
DiCi-Hub's first data sprint on film canonization and data criticism with the insightful dataset of the top 1200 movies assigned in colleges and universities on https://blog.opensyllabus.org/movie-lab/.
In two half-day sessions, our team looked at various aspects of data processing and data visualization, combining the participants' different skills in the fields of film studies and digital humanities. The group discussions and hands-on sessions brought us much food for thought and, as usual, raised more questions than answers. Besides the free exploration and experimentation with software and tools such as OpenRefine, Tableau Public, RAWgraphs and Python, one of our main objectives was to investigate and document as many steps and observations as possible in order to derive tasks and approaches for their implementation in research and teaching digital methods in film studies.
