Drawing from over ten years of experience directing a digital humanities project within the field of film and media studies, as part of his fellowship Prof. Williams will hold a public lecture introducing his Media Ecology Project – MEP – (December 5), further elaborate on certain points in a workshop for our DiCi-Hub team (December 6), and contribute with his experience to our next Data Sprint (December 6 – 7).
Join us on December 5, 2024, for his evening lecture:
"Re-Enchanting Our Relationship to Film and Media History: A Brief Survey of The Media Ecology Project".
We live in a world of seemingly unlimited access to moving images. But what about fugitive archives? How can we make access to elusive resources more equitable and sustainable, and how can we contribute to the discovery of new histories of, and through moving images? This presentation will introduce The Media Ecology Project (MEP), a Digital Humanities research project at Dartmouth College directed by Prof. Mark Williams and designed by Dr. John Bell. The presentation will show how the MEP creates a virtuous cycle of access, scholarship, and preservation by building upon a foundation of technological advance (software development) plus large-scale partnership networks with scholars, students, and institutions of historical memory such as moving image archives.
