B.A. Indology
In Marburg university the first Indological degree is a 3 year B.A., which focuses on languages (Sanskrit and Hindi, possibly Tibetan or Newar or Pali), as well as basic academic techniques and a general knowledge of Indological topics. Foreign students are very welcome for the B.A.
The first issue is probably funding. There are no study fees, but there is also no system of scholarships at the B.A. level for foreign students. Nevertheless immigration laws may require you to prove that you have the necessary funds to cover the living costs during your study.
Domestic students often take up part-time work, but for foreign students this is more difficult, since one has to check whether the study visa comes with a work permit. Questions such as these are best taken up with the International Office, since only there you will find the most up-to-date information on these issues.
Another recurrent problem is the German language certificate. Even though we can always teach in English, the university requires for admission a proficiency in German to be demonstrated by the appropriate certificates. There are also ways to acquire or improve your German in Marburg. For details, see information on language requirements.
These and many other details of the process of enrolling for a degree are not overseen and managed by the Indological institute, but by the central university, please refer to the study page.
