What are our aims?
Studying STEM courses is a major challenge for students with visual impairments due to the mathematical components, as formulas and graphical content are presented visually and are therefore not accessible. Only very few universities provide professional support in the preparation of these materials. In most cases, the students concerned are dependent on assistants who they have to train themselves and are therefore largely left to their own devices, which has a negative impact on their academic success. The aim of the Math4VIP project is to create a central platform that provides information on barrier-free access to mathematics and the necessary steps for the barrier-free preparation of mathematical content for students with visual impairments.
In the process
- new standards are developed
- Materials are created in accordance with the standards
- guidelines are drawn up and
- publicized through appropriate public relations work.
This gives students with visual impairments access to accessible materials, regardless of which university they are studying at.
