Registration for coursework and module examinations
General regulations
- Binding registration for coursework (Studienleistung) and module examinations (Prüfungsleistung) is required for all modules. The registration and deregistration periods usually end two and a half weeks before the end of the lecture period. The specific deadlines are announced each semester on the Current dates page. It is possible to deregister from an examination at any time during the registration period.
- In seminars and practical courses, registration takes place directly in the courses. Students enrolled in seminars must be registered within the first four weeks of the semester and no later than when they give their seminar presentation.
- Subsequent registrations after the end of the registration and deregistration period are impossible.
- If coursework that is required for admission to a module examination is not completed, students will be deregistered from the examination by the lecturer even after the above-mentioned deadline.
- Withdrawal from a registered examination after the end of the registration/deregistration period is only possible in justified exceptional cases. See also Rücktritt von Prüfungen (only in German).
- Registration for coursework and examinations takes place online via MARVIN.
- Students who are unable to register due to problems must inform the Examination Office in writing, e.g. by e-mail, within the registration and deregistration period. In addition to the name, the registration number (Matrikelnummer), the examinations to be registered for or deregistered from and the reason why this was not possible via online registration (e.g. an error message from the system) must also be stated.
- You can check your student data in MARVIN at any time to see which coursework and examinations you are currently registered for.
Regulations for Bachelor and Master degree programs
- Students can choose freely between the first and second examination dates for examinations at department 12, i.e. it is possible to register for the second date without registering for the first date. A failed examination on the first date can be repeated on the second date. A failed examination on the second date cannot be repeated in this semester (only two dates are offered for each examination). The relevant registration deadlines will be announced on the Current Dates page.
- In the event of missing or failure an examination, renewed registration is required for participation in the repeat examination.
- The regulations for the first and second examination dates also apply to departments 02 (Economics) and 19 (Geography). However, other regulations usually apply to examinations at other departments and institutions (e.g. for MarSkills, minor subject, profile area or application area): in most cases, registration is only permitted for the first date, the second date is then only intended for students who have not passed the examination on the first date (and possibly for examinations not taken).
- Please note: For all examinations not conducted by department 12, the registration and deregistration deadlines and other regulations are shown on the websites of the respective degree program from which the modules are exported. Information can be obtained from the examination office of the respective department or institution offering the relevant examination.
For further questions concerning examination procedures and registration, please contact the examination office of the department.
