Gender pay gap decreases from 18% to 16% in 2024 compared to the year before

- The unadjusted gender pay gap decreases stronger than ever since calculations began in 2006
- The adjusted gender pay gap, however, remains unchanged at 6%
WIESBADEN - In 2024, women in Germany earned an average of 16% less per hour than men. According to the Federal Statistical Office (Statistisches Bundesamt Destatis), women received average gross salary of 22.24 €/hour - 4.10 € less than men (26.34 €/hour). Compared to the previous year, the unadjusted gender pay gap decreased by 2 percentage points. This was the strongest decline since calculations began in 2006. In both the western and eastern federal states the unadjusted gender pay gap decreased equally by 2 percentage points. This means that the unadjusted gender pay gap remains significantly smaller in the east than in the west: In 2024, it was at 5% in the east and at 17% in the west.
