What we do
Why do women’s equal-opportunity representatives exist and what do they do?
The fact that the women’s equal-opportunity representative offce at the University of Marburg exists is due to the Hessian Law on Equal Opportunity for Women and Men and on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women in Public Administration (Hessisches Gleichberechtigungsgesetz - HGIG dated 1st January 2016).
The objectives of this law are to achieve equal opportunities for women and men, to improve the compatibility of work and family life and to eliminate the existing under-representation of women in the public sector. Until this goal is achieved, conditions for access, promotion and work for women must be improved through the professional advancement of women using promotion plans with binding targets.
The departmental women’s representatives are elected by the Department's Women’s Assembly and subsequently appointed by the Dean for a two-year period (student representatives for a one-year period).
Ideas and impulses for improvemnt are more than welcome.

We are the contact for all women and every person who biologically and/or socially identifies as a women at the department. We are the contact for the students as well as the scientific and technical-administrative staff.

We organize the Plenary Meeting of all Women of the Department each November.

We participate in relevant committee meetings in an advisory capacity to represent the interests and concerns of women at a departmental and university level.

We are here to inform about women’s issues and relevant events. We provide information by forwarding emails, postings at notice boards, and by reporting to you in the annual plenary women's meeting.

We are involved in preparing, revising and implementing the Department's Women’s Promotion and Development Plan (G) which is a directive paper set up by the Department’s Equal Opportunities Commission.

We are involved in the employment procedures at the department - mostly for scientific and technical-administrative staff - and, on behalf of the Central Women’s Representative, we can be asked to participate in the appointment procedures of a professorship.
