Our group has two AFMs operated in ambient conditions: an Agilent 5500 SPM with optional sample heating / cooling and a climate chamber as well as an Anfatec AFM for lab courses and training of new group members.
Inhalt ausklappen Inhalt einklappen UHV-STM/AFM System
We have in operation a UHV-STM from Omicron/Oxford. The system comprises a chamber for preparation of organic thin films (including a LEED setup) and a separate analysis chamber. This analysis chamber contains the STM (which can also be operated as a UHV-AFM) as well as two Kelvin probes for work function measurements.
Inhalt ausklappen Inhalt einklappen X-ray Diffractometer (XRD)
We use a Bruker D8 Discover X-ray diffractometer with a copper anode which is monochromatised using a Göbel mirror and Nickel filter. This consequently emits mainly Cu Kα radiation (λ = 1.54056 Å).

Our group has a HV chamber specifically designed for in-situ electrical characterisation. Equipped with two micro-manipulators, the system can be used to measure the electrical characteristics of transistors or diodes.
Inhalt ausklappen Inhalt einklappen Synchrotron-based Photoelectron Spectroscopy (NEXAFS, XPS)
We regularly visit the synchrotron BESSY II at the Helmholtz-Center in Berlin. This allows performing photoelectron spectroscopy measurements such as NEXAFS and XPS. Typically, we are allocated with three to four weeks of beamtime per year.
Inhalt ausklappen Inhalt einklappen Simulation PC (Wheatley)
This computer is not set up for conventional office jobs, but instead runs as a 24/7 high power PC. It is equipped with a powerful CPU and 64 gigabytes RAM so that it can perform not only MD simulations, but also memory-intensive DFT calculations.
