Sustainability Aspects

Humanity is faced with the task of drastically restructuring the global energy supply and consistently aligning it with sustainability criteria. Limiting climate change is the most urgent priority. At the same time, however, ecosystems must be protected, the earth, air and water must be protected from pollution, an adequate food supply for the world's population must be ensured, human health must be safeguarded, people must live free from uncontrollable risks and access to cost-effective modern forms of energy must be possible for all - including future generations. In this context, photovoltaics is the most important energy conversion technology for cost-effective climate protection. However, the other aspects of sustainability must be taken into account at the same time. For this reason, we are also investigating techno-economic and social aspects in the working group in collaboration with others. These include ecological life cycle analyses, investigations into resource availability and cost estimates, as well as energy policy issues. We try to take the results of this work into account from the outset when selecting our research priorities and searching for technical solutions.
