Photochemistry with bismuth compounds: Transition metal bismuthanes are compounds featuring a bismuth-transition metal-bond. These species have long been known, but their reactivity remains poorly understood. We have for the first time realized reversible reactions of this class of compounds in photochemically-induced olefin coordination. Moreover, fundamental transformations such as oxidative addition and reductive elimination reactions are possible. These insights suggest the exploitation of bismuthyl ligands as hemilabile, photochemically switchable steering ligands. Read more about this in our recent contribution in Chem. Eur. J. - congratulations to everyone on the publication of these exciting results!
