07.08.2024 Unprecedented Platinum-Bismuth Complexes!
Pt→Bi-Bondung: Cationic bismuth complexes act as electron pair acceptors towards platinum atoms. This grants access to the first compounds featuring unsupported transition metal→bismuth donor/acceptor-interactions, opening up perspectives for the exploitation of cationic bismuth compounds as Z-type ligands. For the thorough understanding of the UV/vis spectra of these compounds spin-orbit-coupling of the heavy atoms needs to be taken into account. The reaction of these novel compounds with H2 leads to a cascade of reactions, which results in the unprecedented Umpolung of the Pt-Bi bond and contains the catenation of Bi atoms in the coordination sphere of the transition metal as one key step. These findings were obtained in collaboration with the Poater group (Barcelona) and the Karttunen group (Aalto) and have recently been acccepted for publication in Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. . Congratulations to the team!
