Pharmaceutical history lecture

In cooperation with the DPhG regional group Hesse, subgroup Marburg, we are delighted to present the lecture by Dr Manfred Fankhauser, pharmacist specialising in medicinal cannabis from Langnau, Switzerland.

Abstract (talk will be held in German)
Seit Jahrtausenden wurde und wird Hanf als Kultur-, Heil- und Rauschpflanze geschätzt oder verachtet. Nachdem Cannabis in der westlichen Medizin in der Vergangheit bereits wichtiger Bestandteil der Materia medica war, wurde die Pflanze Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts weltweit auch in der Medizin verboten. Erst seit der Entdeckung des Endocannabinoid-Systems im menschlichen Körper erleben Cannabis und Cannabinoide als therapeutische Optionen einen großen Aufschwung. Wie konnte es dazu kommen? Sind die hohen Erwartungen an diese umstrittene (Heil-)Pflanze gerechtfertigt? Was ist der aktuelle Forschungsstand; werden und wurden Erkenntnisse von früher bestätigt oder widerlegt? Spielen Cannabispräparate in Zukunft eine wichtige Rolle für notleidende Patienten?
