Together, the University of Marburg and the Max Planck Institute for terrestrial Microbiology operate a cutting-edge research infrastructure with eleven fully staffed core facilities, as well as two joint scientific centers, the Center for Synthetic Microbiology (SYNMIKRO), one of the pioneering research institutions for synthetic microbiology in Europe, as well as the Microcosm Earth Center (MEC), a research incubator for early career scientists.
