Institute of Physiological Chemistry
The institute consists of two scientifically independent research groups:
The research group of Prof. Dr. Oliver Hantschel, who is head of the Institute since January 1, 2020, focuses on the elucidation of molecular mechanisms of oncogenensis in order to find new concepts and approaches for the development of new therapeutic approaches.
The research of Prof. Dr. Marco Rust's group is basic research-oriented and focuses on molecular regulatory mechanisms of the neural cytoskeleton and their importance for the development and function of the mammalian brain.
The institute offers a comprehensive range of lectures, seminars and practical courses in biochemistry in the study courses of human medicine, dentistry and human biology, as well as in neurobiology in the bachelor's degree course in human biology and in the master's degree course in molecular and cellular neurobiology.
