Research
General Information
The scientific activities of the Institute focus on projects in the field of inflammation research. Our Institute pursues the goal of clinical-related basic research with application potential for the development of new diagnostic and therapy options. Following diseases receive special attention:
Bronchial asthma and COPD as chronic inflammatory diseases of the lungs and airways.
- Atopic dermatitis and other atopy/allergy-related and associated diseases
- Autoimmune diseases
- Sepsis
- Multi-organ failure
The Department of Human Medicine’s Core Facility Metabolomics/Mass Spectrometry (CFMS) provides a state-of-the-art infrastructure for chromatographic-mass spectrometric analysis of the cellular metabolome for biomedical questions. In addition, synthetically produced (bio-) molecules can also be investigated in therapeutic drug monitoring. CFMS staff provide support inproject planning and carry out the analyses including quality control as a service.
Scientific and medical doctoral students as well as bachelor and master students are regularly supervised at the institute.
The spectrum of topics for graduation theses ranges from molecular biology and cell biology to clinical tasks.
