Research group Thomas Strecker
In the absence of approved vaccines and therapeutics, the highly pathogenic Lassa virus (LASV), a member of the Arenaviridae family, continues to pose a major public health threat in West Africa. The research group of Dr. Thomas Strecker aims to advance current knowledge underlying LASV infection mechanisms in human target cells and to elucidate structural and functional aspects of LASV proteins in the context of virus-host interactions, focusing on the envelope surface glycoprotein GP and the matrix protein Z.
