Statistical consulting
Statistical consultations can currently only be carried out after individual consultation with PD Dr. Müller!
The Institute for Medical Bioinformatics and Biostatistics offers statistical consultation to members of the Medical Faculty of Philipps University Marburg. Doctoral theses registered at other universities cannot be advised.
If you would like statistical consultation, you must register. The registration form (which also contains the consultation guidelines) can be downloaded (file: anmeldebogen.pdf). The registration form must be filled out and signed by the supervisor and the doctoral student seeking consultation in the two places marked. Please send the completed registration form to the secretariat.
Attention!
Since there has been an increase in requests for statistical consultation recently and a lack of basic statistical knowledge has significantly increased the time required for individual consultations, we are forced to introduce the following changes to the consultation process:
- Consultation for doctoral students can only be given after successful participation in the elective course "Introduction to the statistical analysis of medical data with R". Participation is considered successful if the criteria for awarding a certificate have been met. This measure is necessary to ensure effective preparation for the first meeting with the statistical consultant. The course provides the necessary knowledge to correctly formulate and evaluate exploratory and confirmatory questions. The current dates can be found under the menu item Studying.
- For capacity reasons, each client seeking consultation is given a maximum of 3 appointments of 60 minutes each. We recommend that you plan these 3 appointments carefully. As a result of the consultation, you should develop a statistical concept for your project. You can, for example, use the structure we have prepared as a guide (file gliederung.pdf). You can prepare for a consultation by trying to fill out part of the structure (especially the gray fields) in advance. The consultation is complete when either the time has been used up or all of the outline points have been discussed sufficiently, especially when evaluation recommendations have been given.
A consultation cannot be used to determine the objectives of a study (you must be able to specify these precisely yourself), to explain how to use common statistical packages and other software, or to explain how to format data. The consultant does not carry out any statistical analyses.
Please note: The consultation is given according to the current state of biometric and clinical-epidemiological science. All recommendations are made on the basis of the information provided by the person seeking advice. Therefore, the institute cannot accept any responsibility for the research project, in particular not for the data quality and the accuracy of the results.
