Preferences for end-of-life care - A cross-sectional survey among patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease

Description

Idiopathic Parkinson's disease (iPD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder associated with reduced quality of life and life expectancy compared to the general population. A multidisciplinary approach to treatment, particularly at later stages, may be required to successfully manage the high symptom burden and improve quality of life. While the scientific community is increasingly focusing on the preferences of patients with a limited life expectancy, little is known about the preferences of patients with neurological diseases, especially advanced iPD. This study analyses the preferences of affected patients regarding their end-of-life care. The primary aim is to determine the preferred place of death and to clarify the existence of an advance directive and/or health care proxy. In addition, the study will examine several factors that influence the preferred place of death and the existence of an advance directive.
