Subjective experience of quality of life of patients with parkinsonian syndromes
Description
Parkinson's syndromes are chronic neurodegenerative diseases characterised by both motor and non-motor symptoms. In recent years, quality of life has become an important outcome measure in both clinical practice and research. However, the tools used to assess quality of life in people with PD currently focus primarily on disease-related aspects of quality of life. However, the diversity of PD symptoms means that quality of life can be affected not only in health-related areas, but in all areas of a person's daily life.
Currently, there is a lack of data describing the experience of quality of life from the patient's perspective in a holistic sense. The study will use qualitative research based on grounded theory and qualitative content analysis to collect indicators of patients' subjective quality of life. Data will be collected through interviews with 15-20 study participants. Photo elicitation will be used during the interviews.
As part of the work, a discussion paper on the scientific debate on quality of life has been published in the Journal of Personalised Medicine: https://doi.org/10.3390/jpm12050804
