Investigation of the connectivity pattern of the olfactory brain in patients with idiopathic Parkinson's disease

Description

Smell disturbance is a typical symptom of (early) Parkinson's disease. However, the exact relationship between disease-related changes in brain structure and olfactory dysfunction is still unknown. In this study, we will use data from the Parkinson's Progressive Marker Initiative (PPMI) to look at the connections between specific parts of the olfactory brain in Parkinson's patients and other regions of the brain. The aim is to find out whether these connection patterns are indicative of the damage that leads to the loss or reduction of the ability to smell. They will also investigate whether the altered wiring patterns are related to other non-motor or motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
