Registry for Apomorphine-, L-Dopa-Infusiontherapy and Deep Brain Stimulation in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease

Description

The REAL-DBS-PD Study (Registry for Apomorphine-, L-Dopa-Infusiontherapy and Deep Brain Stimulation in Patients with Parkinson’s Disease) is a prospective, non-interventional registry. Aim of the study is to quantify and compare motor and non-motor symptoms as well as the quality of life in patients with Parkinson's disease who are treated with one of the advanced therapy options (apomorphine-infusion, levodopa/carbidopa intestinal gel infusion, deep brain stimulation). Due to the non-interventional study design, the symptom changes are recorded under real-life conditions ("real-life study"). In the study arm of patients treated with deep brain stimulation, we try to predict the postoperative symptom changes based on preoperative imaging. In order to do this, we employ the latest imaging-methods to analyse microstructural properties of the brain and specific brain networks. Results of the study should help to improve patient selection and counselling before starting one of the above-mentioned advanced therapy options.
