My work focuses on investigating the engineering principles of neural and symptom dynamics in psychiatric disorders using techniques from network control theory and machine learning. I try to understand if and how the symptom and neural dynamics can be understood in terms of dynamical systems theory. I also investigate how these dynamics can be controlled using external intervention using neural stimulations (ECT, tACS, etc.).
My long-term goal would be to improve individualized treatment of psychiatric disorders using closed-loop interventions. The intermediate questions concern the analysis of controllability of psychological and brain structures in healthy subjects and patients, analysis of the combined neural-symptom networks, and controller and observer design. To this end, I use cross-sectional and longitudinal symptoms as well as neuroimaging (fMRI, DTI, T1, EEG) data together with computational models drawn mainly from the theory of dynamical systems.
