Research Projects of the PerMed-COPD Platform

We persue our goals of translating recent research results into improved COPD diagnosis and classification in clinical practice, and to, thus, improve personalized medicine in five research projects:

Therapeutic Study

Our multicenter clinical study aims at evaluating dedicated biomarkers, as well as using a prototype clinical desicion-making tool.

QCT Imaging Core Unit

In our QCT Imaging Core Unit, we aim at validating the global clinical value of CT scanning and image-derived quantitative biomarkers for the treatment of COPD and its comorbidities and at developing a clinically applicable workflow and infrastructure for the multicenter-implementation of QCT in a clinical decision-making environment.

Molecular Biomarker

In our project on Molecular Biomarker, we detect clinically relevant biomarkers and validate them in a prospective, multi-center validation cohort, making use of existing clinical data.

Clinical Decision Support System

In our research project on a Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS), we develop a CDSS to guide physicians in their diagnosis and treatment decisions for COPD patients. In addition, we establish an integrated research platform for personalized medicine that will empower clinical researchers to explore and test new hypotheses and enable analytical experts to deliver developed intelligent applications for validation and translation into clinical practice.

Implementation Analysis

In our Implementation Analysis, we develop a concept to evaluate and support the implementation of the Clinical Decision Support System and its impact on and acceptance by patients and other stake holders as well as its economic impact and potential cost-effectiveness.
