24.08.2023 HeFDI Data Talk on Friday, 08 September 2023, 11-12h: "Research Data Management (RDM) at Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany - Awareness, Activities and Demands" (EN)
Contributing to our understanding of Research Data Management (RDM) awareness, application and the corresponding needs of researchers, the EVER_FDM project is the first to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of RDM at Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany. In our HeFDI Data Talk, Robert Werth (FUAS) is going to present its main findings and offer an evaluation of promising measures to support the change in research culture and practice.
The online event is free of charge; click here to register. With the registration you will receive the access data, which are valid for all talks of our bi-weekly series. The talk will be held in English.

Research data management (RDM) is an increasingly important part of research practices, especially since funders increasingly expect researchers to archive and share their data. Several German institutions like the National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) and state aim to support this trend towards more open and FAIR handling of research data. However, it is not yet clear, to what extent the measures are actually reaching the researchers. This is especially true for Universities of Applied Sciences as they traditionally focus more on teaching and are often underrepresented in initiatives promoting RDM. The project "Development and Dissemination of Research Data Management at Universities of Applied Sciences" (EVER_FDM) is the first to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of RDM at these universities. Using a mixed methods approach of a large, standardized online survey (N = 2,456) for researchers and five focus group interviews with RDM professionals, three main questions were addressed: 1. Are researchers at Universities of Applied Sciences aware of RDM initiatives and developments? 2. To what extent are RDM and open data already part of their research practices? 3. What kind of support is best suited to meet their needs? The talk highlights the main findings of the study and offers an evaluation of promising measures to support the change in research culture and practice towards more open and FAIR handling of research data. Participants will then be invited to discuss their own experiences with and opinions towards successful RDM support.
Speaker: Robert Werth, Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences
