Admission Requirements

The general entry requirement is the successful completion of the First Legal Examination or a Bachelor's degree in the fields of law, history, social sciences, philosophy, economics, media sciences, psychology, regional sciences, geography, religious studies, gender studies, archive and documentation science or translation studies, or a comparable German or foreign university degree.

The German Language Examination for University Entrance (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang - DSH), level DSH-2, or equivalent certifications must have been passed before beginning the course of study. If you do not yet have sufficient German language knowledge, you can apply for a German language pre-sessional preparatory course in Marburg. Applicants must also provide proof of knowledge of the English language at level B2 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages" of the Council of Europe. If proof of knowledge of the English language is not available by the application deadline, the enrolment can take place on the condition that the proof will be provided until registration in the second semester.

In addition, applicants must demonstrate their personal and subject-specific suitability which will be assessed by an appointed Committee. Details on the process can be found in Appendix 05 to the Master’s Regulations (only in German).

Application

The course starts only in the winter semester.

The master's program "International Criminal Justice (Law, History, Politics)" will start in the winter semester 2020/2021.

Application period: 05/01 - 08/20/2020

Your application for the M.A. International Criminal Justice (Law, History, Politics) must include the following documents:

a) Proof of the successful completion of the first legal examination or a relevant bachelor's degree. (See Admission Requirements)

b) Proof of knowledge of the German and English language. (See Admission Requirements)

c) Curriculum Vitae of one or two DIN.A4 pages.

d) A Cover Letter of no more than two DIN-A4 pages in which the applicant sets out his or her expectations of the master's degree "International Criminal Justice (Law, History, Politics)" at the Philipps University of Marburg, as well as his or her suitability for the programme. This may be evidence of personal commitment, social competencies, teamwork skills, self-reflective work, relevant practical experience, relevant stays abroad or knowledge of foreign languages, or academic engagement with relevant topics (e.g. in the bachelor thesis).

e) If applicable, evidence of your subject-related or personal suitability, as presented in your CV or Cover Letter.
