Botanical garden on the Lahnberge, Karl-von-Frisch-Straße, 35043 Marburg

As always, Philipps-Universität Marburg is celebrating its summer festival with students, employees and all interested parties on the last day of lectures of the summer semester in the New Botanical Garden on the Lahnberge. Exciting insights into science, a varied music program, information stands and hands-on activities await the public at the University Summer Festival 2024. Admission is free.

The Dec. VI will also be there with the International Office and Family Service and is looking forward to your visit at booth 8 and 9!

Stage program

14:30 Samples from three ensembles of the Student Symphony Orchestra

15:15 Welcoming remarks: Prof. Dr. Thomas Nauss, University President

15:45 The student BigBand shows the diversity of their skills with pieces from jazz, rock and pop.

17:15 The rock band Seven Blocks presents a broad repertoire of classics and oldies.

18:15 Drawing: The Marburg University Association raffles off a weekend in Kleinwalsertal among new members.

18:30 Pop melodies and hip-hop beats by Vavunettha

20:00 The band Einsneunzig moves with danceable rhythms and soulful lyrics.

21:00 Melodic and progressive techno sound by Perla Nera

 14:00 to 18:00 Mobile on the grounds with a mobile piano and saxophone: Buskers Deluxe

Guided tours

"Around the world in 80 steps": Discover the diverse world of greenhouses on this themed tour! The tour starts at 15:00 and 18:00 at the designated meeting point. The number of participants is limited to 15 people at a time. Free tickets for the guided tours are available at the information stand in front of the stage.

Exercise activities for children and adults (Center for University Sports)

Interactive knowledge games from the German Language Atlas Research Center

Experiments to take part in: Drive a hydrogen-powered car around a racetrack or make "goo worms" from alginate at the Chemikum stand

Science Box: Researchers from SYNMIKRO and the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology present themselves and their work. They will be standing on a box - in the tradition of the Speakers' Corner in London's Hyde Park - and are looking forward to a direct exchange with visitors to the summer festival.

Quiz with questions from the fields of cartography and geography at the Center for Geomatics and Media Design

Exciting physical and chemical experiments to watch and participate in at the stand of the Scientific Center for Materials Science 

Visit to the Teddy Clinic: medical, dentistry and pharmacy students treat their cuddly toys together with children and playfully introduce the topic of visiting a hospital.

At the stand of the Center for Teacher Education, there will be upcycling craft activities and a mindfulness trail, among other things.

Food and drink

Vegetarian dishes and cold drinks are offered by the Studierendenwerk Marburg. Blé Noir serves specialties from Brittany. Burgers, hot dogs and fries are available from Burger Kosmos as well as bratwurst and more from Tarek Michel's barbecue stand. Sup_di offers Vietnamese curries and noodle salad.

Coffee and cake can be found in the garden café. Cool off with ice cream from Heisszeit.

In addition to wine, there are cocktails - including non-alcoholic ones - and sundowners.

Arrival

This year you can reach the summer festival via the north gate of the Botanical Garden on the Lahnbergen. Shuttle buses will run every 45 minutes from 19:00 to 23:00 between the Botanical Garden on the Lahnbergen and the Erwin-Piscator-Haus (Stadthalle).

City bus lines 2, 7 or 27 run from the main railway station to the "Botanischer Garten" stop. From Erlenring, take city bus line 9 to the "Botanischer Garten" stop. From Südbahnhof, take line 7 to the "Botanischer Garten" stop.
