Two fields at Philipps-Universität Marburg shine in Global Ranking of Academic Subjects
Philipps-Universität Marburg has proven the strength of its research in the latest Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) from the Shanghai Ranking Consultancy. It won the top spot in chemistry among Hessian universities that made the list. But pharmacy is also particularly strong, both on the national and international levels.
The current GRAS ranks over 4,000 universities worldwide and evaluates research activities in 54 fields in the natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medicine, and social sciences. Among other things, it focuses on the number of publications, extent of international cooperation (e.g. by coauthors from abroad), academic recognitions (e.g. awards), as well as representation in particularly renowned scientific journals.
In chemistry, Philipps-Universität Marburg ranked 151-200 internationally and 13-16 nationally, making it the top-ranked university in Hessen. Pharmacy also need not fear comparison with globally well-known universities such as Harvard or Cambridge: pharmacy at Philipps-Universität Marburg ranked 76-100 internationally and 8-9 nationally.
Thanks to the strength of its research, its characteristic variety of subjects, and its growing number of English-language master’s degree programs, Philipps-Universität Marburg - as an internationally oriented, cosmopolitan university - has evolved in recent years into an increasingly attractive location for foreign students.
Located in a safe university town with short travel distances and with a comprehensive advisory and support program for students and scientists from abroad, Philipps-Universität Marburg offers students from all over the world excellent study and career prospects with its broad range of programs in natural and life sciences as well as humanities and social sciences.
