Placement Procedure
Who must take a placement test?
- If you have never learned any Japanese, you clearly do not have to take a placement test. Your only booking option then is an A1.1 course.
- If you have learned some Japanese in the past, a placement test is mandatory. The result will indicate at which level you can continue at the Language Center.
- Exception: Students who have successfully completed a Japanese course at the Language Center in the previous semester can book a class on the next level without an additional test (follow-up registration). However, this is limited to a certain period of time, as specified in the email notifications sent out to those eligible for follow-up registration.
What does the placement test for Japanese look like?
The placement test for Japanese consists of a written and an oral part. The written part tests your knowledge of lexis, grammar and reading comprehension in writing. The oral part tests your speaking competence and listening comprehension in a small conversation.
