Collegial Consultation
One of the day-to-day challenges junior scholars face at a university is that they frequently lack an opportunity to discuss issues of concern with one another and, on occasion, a trusting environment in which to do so. To this end, MARA offers coaching to familiarize a group of junior scholars at Philipps-Universität Marburg with the tool of collegial consultation and to assist this group in the process over a period of time. Collegial consultation refers to a systematic consultation session in which participants mutually advise one another in a structured manner and jointly develop solutions in matters relating to the issues and problems encountered in their everyday working lives. Potential topics could be career prospects, work-life balance, group dynamics, time management, potential for conflict among colleagues, and many more.
MARA will support a consultation group of five to ten junior scholars from Philipps-Universität Marburg and cover the costs of a maximum of three sessions under the direction of an experienced coach. This type of coaching offers you an opportunity to directly address specific issues of current concern, jointly develop ideas for the solution to your problems, and expand your own consultation and leadership skills as a peer coach. The goal of this program is to establish a permanent, professionally operating collegial consultation group.
Target Group
Support will be provided for a group of five to ten advanced doctoral candidates and/or postdoctoral scholars from Philipps-Universität Marburg who are MARA members. In the ideal case, the participants should come from different areas of expertise and not have an immediate day-to-day working relationship.
Framework
Funding will be provided for group coaching for up to two and a half days, which may take place on different days, as applicable. MARA will contract a consultant and organize the first meeting in consultation with the group. The group will organize the remaining meetings itself. Additional meetings beyond these group coaching sessions, including the continuation of the consultation and its funding, are the responsibility of the group members. However, MARA does offer the opportunity to use its facilities for additional meetings.
Should you be interested in collegial consultation, please contact the Postdoctoral Program Coordinator. Please provide a brief outline introducing your collegial group and describe the participants' expectations.
