The German research system often seems confusing for new international doctoral candidates. This course is designed to make sure you get acquainted with the doctoral system in Germany in general and at the University of Marburg in particular.
Contents
- Earning your "Dr.": a step by step manual.
- The relationship to your professor and/or laboratory team: "Sie" versus "Du", multiple dependencies, and how to get feedback.
- Academic centers at Philipps-Universität Marburg: MARA, International Office, Modern Language Center, and others.
- Getting to know important resources: EURAXESS.
- How to become acquainted with Germany and the German culture.
Intended Learning Outcomes
- You will be familiar with the formalities of a PhD in Germany.
- You will be able to identify the resources (forms, doctoral regulation) that you need to consult if you have any questions.
- You will be conscious of the multilayered relationships within your department.
- You will be familiar with resources bot
- h at the university and outside of the university that can be helpful around doing your PhD.
- You will be familiar with ways to feel more acquainted with Germany and the German culture.
Requirements
Please note that this is not an English language course. Proficiency in English at the B2 level is required.
