The workshop addresses doctoral candidates and provides practical assistance in writing academic publications. Participants will be asked to bring one or two publications from their own field of research that might serve as a model for their planned publication.

During the workshop you will

  • discuss the general structure and "choreography" of academic publications,
  • work on the "storyline" and "take-home message" of your planned article,
  • organize your results or the elements of your key argument, and
  • formulate the key message, a first tentative title, and abstract.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • You are familiar with the general structure of academic publications.
  • You have a clear understanding of how to approach the task of writing papers.
  • You produce the most important elements of a first draft.
  • You are familiar with the principles for planning, analyzing, and writing academic papers.

Didactic Methods

Trainer input, practical training, discussions, individual feedback, and group discussions of your texts

Requirements

Please bring one or two publications from your field of research to the course. Think about the key message of your planned article, a rough outline of your argument, and, if applicable, the data that you want to present.
Please bring a laptop if available.
Please note that this is not an English language course. Proficiency in English at the B2 level of competency is required.
