Effective and persuasive communication in order to share information, spread research and affect others is needed everywhere. It's easy to speak up! This seminar develops vital rhetoric skills that enable you to perform confidently in a variety of situations in which public speaking is required (from conference lectures and scientific discussions to interviews, etc.). We will explore effective ingredients for speaking up with zest and put them to action together.
Intended Learning Outcomes
- You are able to clarify your speech purpose, objective, and audience expectations by applying identifying questions and grids (handouts, partner discussion, feedback).
- You create effective argumentation through the use of basic rhetorical structures (examples, individual speech, feedback).
- You make your speech memorable and lively by including elements that serve this purpose (examples, individual speech, feedback).
- You engage with your audience through the practice of stage presence and handle questions from your audience with ease using a Questions-Answer-Plot (handouts, individual exercises, feedback).
- You put positive body language to use and enhance your vocal abilities by applying basic voice training elements (instructor input, partner and group training, individual speech, feedback).
