The workshop addresses doctoral candidates and provides practical assistance in writing academic publications. During the workshop, we will discuss the general structure and "choreography" of academic publications, You will work on the "storyline" and "take-home message" of your planned article, organize your results or the elements of your key argument, and formulate the key message, a first tentative title, and an abstract.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • You will be familiar with the general structure of academic publications.
  • You will have a clear understanding of how to approach the task of writing papers.
  • You will be aware of the principles for planning, analyzing, and writing academic papers.
  • You will be able to outline the most important elements of a first draft.

Didactic Methods

Trainer input, practical training, discussions, individual feedback, and group discussions of your texts

Requirements

Prior attendance of our "English Academic Writing for the Social Sciences and Humanities" on December 8 and 9, 2016, is recommended but not mandatory.
Please bring one or two publications from your field of research that might serve as a model for your planned publication. Think about the key message of your planned article, a rough outline of your argument, and, if applicable, the data that you want to present.
Please bring a laptop if available.
Proficiency in English at the B2 level of competency is required.
