EMF – Management of Third-Party Funded Projects

This two-day workshop aims to provide you with an opportunity to build your understanding, skills and confidence in management of third-party funded projects.

Goal of this workshop is to provide you with an opportunity to build your understanding, skills and confidence in management of third-party funded projects. Based on the input of the facilitator, an active group leader, this workshop deals with project management in academia and especially in third-party funded projects.
In your third-party funded project you are responsible for the following tasks (to be handled in this workshop):

• Planing your kick-off meeting,
• Leading your project in terms of science, budget and people, with respect to the regulatory framework of your funding organization (e. g. DFG, EU, BMBF) and the university,
• Requesting personnel and dealing with changes of personnel and salary adjustments,
• Submitting scientific and financial reports, and
• Receiving and including help from your administration.

Intended Learning Outcomes

• You know how to effectivly manage your project in terms of science, budget, people and time, repecting the regulatory framework of your funding organization.
• You know the basics of how to employ and lead personnel and how to deal with changes of personnel and salary adjustments.
• You submit coherent scientific and financial reports to your funding organization.
• You enhance your overall effectiveness in your research studies.

Didactic Methods

Presentations, Q&A sessions, group work on your real projects, simulations

Requirements

Please bring your own (planned) research proposal. Confidentiality is respected. Proficiency in English at the B2 level of competency is required.

This workshop is part of the certifying program "Designing and Managing Research Projects" (EMF).

Please note that registration is always binding. You may cancel your registration up to twelve days before the course begins without providing specific reasons. Thereafter, you will be required to pay the attendance fee even if you do not attend the course.
