During the course of a doctoral project it is normal to get stuck, to even lose one's motivation to continue. This course develops vital skills for personal leadership during difficult periods in a doctoral project. We will explore qualities and tools for a constructive mindset. You will learn how to clarify your current situation, declutter your thoughts and explore your needs and options for action. We will focus on tools for personal clarity, for successful communication in difficult phases and for confidence in making your next steps. The course will guide you in creating a positive personal vision around your project. You will apply a choice of grids and methods to your own situation through individual exercises and group sessions. In the end, you'll have created your personal compass for your doctoral project.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • You will be able to use grids that help to define your current situation, to explore your and other involved parties' expectations and needs. You will know how to use introspective question grids to clarify possible perspectives.
  • You will know how to use mindfulness tools to center yourself and how to apply self-inquiry for goal-orientation.
  • You will be familiar with possible motivation strategies and adapt a personal strategy for your current situation.
  • You will know how to craft your own engaging positive vision using visual cues and positive rephrasing.
  • You will be familiar with conceptual planning tools to define your next steps.
