Poster sessions are an integral part of almost every scientific conference. Their purpose is to highlight research results, visualize them, and stimulate discussion. To draw your audience in, you need a crystal clear message, a text format optimized for best readability and well-chosen graphics. And above all, you need to think well through how to organize your research content on the required format. Designing a poster is just half of the story – an effective and compelling presentation is also required to bring your message across. Specifically tailored to the needs of graduates and early career scientists, the workshop concept focuses on the conveyance of design and presentation skills and on the practical training how to apply these skills for an effective science communication.
Part 1 of the workshop covers the main principles of design and layout techniques such as typography, color,
proportional balance, visualization, and the use of design grids. Participants also learn how to conceive and develop a clearly structured poster by reducing the scientific content to the most significant points.
Part 2 takes essential presentation skills into focus, such as conceptual considerations, dramaturgy and structure, main aspects of verbal and nonverbal communication concerning a virtual setting. The workshop is rounded off with the preparation and training of pitch-presentations with video recording and will be completed by a feedback session.
