EMF – Presentation of Third-Party-Funded Projects – Online Event
In this practical workshop, you will learn to deliver convincing and engaging science project presentations to external panels and various audiences. The training focuses on the presentation of your scientific grant proposal and also prepares for an ERC grant interview.

You will train best-practice techniques for delivering compelling science presentations and pitches, tailored for both in-person and online formats. You will also acquire valuable rhetorical techniques to captivate audiences and articulate research visions effectively. The workshop will be highly interactive, with numerous individual and group exercises. You can expect a dynamic and engaging experience, actively participating and experimenting with new presentation approaches.
Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, you will be able to:
- Start your presentations with engaging presentation openers.
- Recognize when and how to use pauses and other essential rhetorical techniques.
- Use alternative ways of structuring your grant presentations.
- Engage effectively your panel and other types of audiences.
- Master Q&A rounds and respond elegantly to criticism.
- Use your voice in an engaging and effective way and apply best-practice tips and tricks on your nonverbal communication.
- Employ the essential Do's and Don'ts of PowerPoint.
Didactic Methods
Individual and group work with various practical rhetorical exercises, structured group discussions and question rounds, as well as individual presentations with detailed feedback from the trainer
Requirements
Prepare a 7 to 10-minute presentation of your science project in advance.
To participate in the online event you need a PC/laptop with a current browser (recommended: Chrome or Firefox) as well as a headset (or speakers and microphone), a webcam plus a stable Internet connection.
Proficiency in English at the B2 level of competency is required.

Registration
This workshop is a mandatory event of the certifying program "Designing and Managing Research Projects" (EMF). If you are not a participant of the program, you will be on the waiting list until two weeks prior the beginning of the event.

Please note that registration is always binding. You may cancel your registration up to twelve days before the event begins without providing specific reasons. Thereafter, you will be required to pay the attendance fee even if you do not attend the event.
