European and International Research Funding and Scholarships for Postdocs

For research funding from sources outside of Germany, the European Union plays a major role, as do various international sponsors.

1. European Research Funding Programs

• Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowships to promote cross-border mobility (European scholarships for researchers who are either coming to Europe or are pursuing their research in another European country; scholarships to fund reassignments of European-based researchers in countries outside of Europe)
• Starting Grants or Consolidator Grants awarded by the European Research Council (ERC) to promote pioneering research by junior scholars who head their own research group

2. International Research Funding Programs

• Human Frontier Science Program - promotes junior scholars as well as international collaboration in interdisciplinary life sciences
  
  • Young Investigators' Grants for interdisciplinary international research teams consisting of junior scholars with a doctoral degree
  • Postdoctoral Fellowships for research in new areas of study while working in a different country
