International conference “Re-Centering a Region: the Maghreb in Motion”

From 16 to 17 February 2018 the international conference “Re-Centering a Region: the Maghreb in Motion” takes place at the Center for Near and Middle Eastern Studies.

The thematic interest of the conference is to bring the Maghreb into focus as a region of en­tanglements, of transfer and mobility.

The conference is the result of a cooperation between the subject area Politics of Near and Middle East at the CNMS, the DFG-funded project “Figures of Thought | Turning Points. Cultural Practices and Social Change in the Arab World” of the subject area Arabic Literature and Culture at the CNMS and the Institut de recherches et d’études sur le monde arabe musulmane (IREMAM), Aix-en-Provence.

On Thursday evening before the conference, Moroccan novelist Fouad Laroui gives the keynote speech followed by readings from his literary work, more information can be found in the announcement for this event.
