In this presentation, I analyze the ethnographic/anthropological research in Kosovo, which, until the end of WWII, has mainly been done by international scholars. The 1950s and 1960s marked the starting point of ethnographic research conducted by local researchers. Besides ideological restraints, as I will describe, that in terms of theoretical and methodological approaches most of these studies show the lack of appropriate trainings and qualifications in the field of ethnography (ethnology). At this period was ethnographic research was mostly conducted by the Institute of Albanology in Prishtina. Only in 2001 the University of Prishtina opened the Department of Ethnology, which led to a significant transformation of conducting research in nowadays Kosovo.
