Major Research Instrumentation

Being equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation is the foundation for top-level research.  The departments and research centers of the Philipps-Universität Marburg therefore operate numerous major instrumentations in Core Facilities.

As part of the Research Campus of Central Hessen the Justus Liebig University Giessen, the Philipps-Universität Marburg and the Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen / University of Applied Sciences developed the Research Infrastructure Database Central Hessen called FinD Mi, which clearly details the major research instrumentation (DFG-Großgeräte) and special instrumentation (Spezialgeräte) at each of the three institutions.

The goal of FinD Mi is to promote the creation of new research cooperation within the RCCH, to create new synergies through improved utilization of high-cost instrumentation and to enable ecologically sustainable use.  After logging in with the institution’s credentials the details for each instrument will be displayed to the user along with contact information. The data bank is updated with newly acquired instrumentation.  In the further course of the project, instrumentation at non-university research facilities will be added to FinD Mi and additional functionalities to the data bank will be supplemented.  Financed is the development of the data bank by the Hessian Ministry for Higher Education, Research, Science and the Arts (HMWK).

Below is the link to the FinD Mi data bank  (https://find-mi.openiris.io/landing/?ReturnUrl=%2f ).

More information and individuals to contact may be found here: https://www.fcmh.de/en/research/research-infrastructure-database (also linked below).

Funding for major instrumentation may be applied for in the “Major Research Instrumentation” funding program of the German Research Foundation.  For instrumentation with a gross acquisition cost over €200.000, an application should be submitted to the DFG for evaluation (with copy to the HMWK).  This applies both to instrumentation according to Art. 91b of the Basic Law which may be co-financed by the DFG for up to 50% of the investment costs as well as the state major instrumentation whose costs are wholly financed by the institution.  We will gladly support you in your application for major research instrumentation, including with the expertise of our Commission on Major Instrumentation.
