Das Bild illustriert die Hinrichtung von Maria I., Königin von Schottland am 8. Februar 1587 auf Schloss Fotheringhay in Northamptonshire. Nach neunzehn Jahren Gefangenschaft wurde sie für schuldig befunden, die Ermordung ihrer Cousine, Königin Elisabeth I., geplant zu haben. Die Kleider der Königin wurden verbrannt, um zu verhindern, dass ihre Anhänger sie als Reliquien aufbewahren, wie die Szene links unten zeigt.

In the CRC series "Politiken der Sicherheit | Politics of Security" the 10th volume "Security and Difference in Historical Perspective" has been published. The contributions in the book, edited by Sigrid Ruby and Anja Krause, examine historical and current conceptions of security, i.e. discourses and practices aiming at collective security, for their interrelation with categories of difference such as gender, race, status, religion, etc. and their intersection. What does the historical perspective contribute to an intersectional critique of security studies? Multidisciplinary and empirically diverse objects of study from the Middle Ages to the present will be used to analyze the perception, interpretation and effects of security-related practices and discourses.
