Subproject A06
Securitization and Discourses on the Rights of Minorities in Central Europe during the in 19th and 20th century
2. Funding period (2018-2021)
The subproject is devoted to the conception of state and social security and the dramatizations of the nationality and language question derived from it in a regional context. The analyses focus on Hungary in the period between 1849 and 1918 with studies on two multilingual and multiconfessional regions of investigation: Western Hungary and a county in Southern Hungary. For these cases, the study examines how different groups of actors interpreted the multiethnic character of Hungarian society and framed it as a foreign and domestic security risk. This is examined in the context of general processes of state building and constitutional developments within Austria-Hungary.
