Fear of Crime? Media Dramatizations and the Reactions of the Audience

2. Funding period (2018-2021)

The subproject analyzes crime dramatizations in real crime shows both in their temporal development and in international comparison, but above all the resonance on the part of viewers and the reactions of the public to the broadcast format. The tradition of the worldwide prototype of the format, the ZDF series Aktenzeichen XY... ungelöst, offers extremely favorable, hitherto unused possibilities. We will examine the extent to which the interest of the show's makers and recipients in crime detection on the one hand and thrills on the other fostered a discourse on crime that made people feel secure.
