Working Group Theory

3. Funding period (2022-2025)

The Theory Working Group discusses conceptual and theoretical developments in historical and critical security research as well as related research fields from an interdisciplinary perspective. Furthermore, it is concerned with the critical analysis of complex questions of security in the contemporary world. The group's central concern is to examine how current and historical events and developments affect the perception and conceptualization of security and how security can be historicized. Following on from these debates, the group discusses the extent to which concepts of security are tied to social and political discourses of security and what challenges emancipation from these entails.
