Central Hessian University Study Preparatory Center
Who must attend the Study Preparatory Center?
Not every foreign certificate directly entitles you to study in Germany. There are many certificates that are only "indirectly a university entrance qualification." Applicants with so-called indirect university entrance qualifications must pass the assessment examination at the Study Preparatory Center before beginning a study program in Germany.
Click on "Search" and select the country in which you completed schooling.
Special note: If you have an International Baccalaureat (IB), please select Switzerland.
What does one do at the Study Preparatory Center?
Prospective international students receive linguistic and subject-oriented preparation for subsequent study here. The language of instruction is German. For that reason, you must already speak German well in order to receive a spot at the Study Preparatory Center. The subjects that are taught depends on the program desired later. The Central Hessian University Study Preparatory Center offers its courses in four subject areas: W-course (Wirtschaft/Economics), T-course (Technik/Engineering), G-course (Gesellschaft/Social Science) and M-course (Medizin/Medicine). After two semesters of instruction, the Study Preparatory Center is completed with the passing of the assessment examination.
How does one apply for the Study Preparatory Center?
There is no direct application for the Study Preparatory Center. You must apply via uni-assist for the desired study program. If your educational certificates represent an indirect university entrance qualification (= studying only possible after successful participation in the assessment examination at the Study Preparatory Center), the application will be automatically handled as an application for the Study Preparatory Center. Prospective students then receive admission for the entrance examination there. The application deadline for the winter semester at the Study Preparatory Center is 04/15, and 10/15 for the summer semester, before the start of the desired semester.
German courses at the Study Preparatory Center
The Central Hessian University Study Preparatory Center also offers German courses. The results of a placement test determine the course level into which you are classified. We recommend learning as much German as possible in your home country.
Those who have received a letter of acceptance to the Philipps University Marburg and who would like to take German courses before studying can register for two semesters of DSH preparation (= language courses). You will then receive a student identity card and can use the semester ticket.
